Living for God can be harder than we think sometimes. A lot of people claim for God during difficult times but also, a lot decide to forget His existence when their prayers are not answered or when difficulties come in the midst of faithfulness to Him. Can we really expect to live heaven on earth? Maybe this idea of prosperity, health, and fortune when you are believers is just a lie, and we are just expecting too much of someone that never promised us that. After all, Jesus said, “in the world, you will have tribulation” (John 16:33).
Por vezes, viver para Deus pode ser mais difícil do que pensamos. Muitas pessoas clamam por Deus durante tempos difíceis, mas também, muitas decidem esquecer a Sua existência quando as suas orações não são atendidas ou quando as dificuldades apesar da fidelidade a Ele. Podemos realmente esperar viver o céu na terra? Talvez esta ideia de prosperidade, saúde e fortuna quando se é crente seja apenas uma mentira, e estamos apenas a esperar demasiado de alguém que nunca nos prometeu isso. Afinal, Jesus disse, “no mundo tereis tribulação” (João 16,33).
I refuse to believe in God as a liar, and Jesus himself said He is the truth (John 14:6). For us, it’s hard to believe in a God that looks at all the suffering and doesn’t do anything, but the hard truth is that He never promised us a carefree life here. He could never promise something that is not true. If you don’t believe me, believe in all the great men that were willing to die for God.
It’s true that God promised us a better life, but that will never be fulfilled in this life. Jesus “overcame the world” (John 16:33) and because He did, promised us that He would go to heaven, prepare us a place and return to take us with Him (John 14:3).
Recuso-me a acreditar em Deus como um mentiroso, e o próprio Jesus disse que Ele é a verdade (João 14,6). Para nós, é difícil acreditar num Deus que olha para todo o sofrimento e não faz nada, mas a dura verdade é que Ele nunca nos prometeu uma vida despreocupada aqui. Ele nunca poderia prometer algo que não é verdade. Se não acreditas em mim, acredita em todos os grandes homens que estiveram dispostos a morrer por Deus.
É verdade que Deus nos prometeu uma vida melhor, mas isso nunca será cumprido nesta vida. Jesus “venceu o mundo” (João 16,33) e, porque Ele o fez, prometeu-nos que iria para o céu, nos prepararia um lugar e voltaria para nos levar com Ele (João 14,3).
So, let’s return to the question, “can we live heaven on earth”? Yes and No. No, because this world, as it is, will always be a sinful one, which means that suffering and injustice will always exist, and we may have to experience it too. Yes, because heaven is more than a place without suffering, it is a person, God, and our complete relationship with Him. For “this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent” (John 17:3). If God is the one living in us (Galatians 2:20) our “yoke is easy and [our] burden is light” (Matthew 11:30) and we can already experience the peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
Então, voltemos à questão “podemos viver o céu na terra”? Sim e Não. Não, porque este mundo, tal como está, será sempre um mundo pecaminoso, o que significa que o sofrimento e a injustiça existirão sempre, e talvez também o tenhamos de experimentar. Sim, porque o céu é mais do que um lugar sem sofrimento, é uma pessoa, Deus, e a nossa relação completa com Ele. Pois, “a vida eterna é esta: que te conheçam a ti, como o único Deus verdadeiro, e a Jesus Cristo, aquele que tu enviaste.” (João 17:3). Se Deus é aquele que vive em nós (Gálatas 2:20) o nosso “jugo é fácil e [o nosso] fardo é leve” (Mateus 11:30) e podemos experimentar já a paz que ultrapassa toda a compreensão (Filipenses 4:7).
