I studied in a city called Braga. It’s a beautiful city filled with history. In that city you have a monument called the “the arch of the open door” and it’s said that everyone is always welcomed to the city because of it. While remembering the “open door” of Braga, an idea came to my mind. Did you know that the Bible speaks about an “open door” too? Let’s read and learn together.
Estudei numa cidade chamada Braga. É uma bela cidade cheia de história. Nessa cidade tem um monumento chamado “o arco da porta aberta” e diz-se que todos são sempre bem-vindos à cidade por causa dela. Ao recordar a “porta aberta” de Braga, veio-me à cabeça uma ideia. Sabias que a Bíblia também fala de uma “porta aberta”? Vamos ler e aprender juntos.
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him, the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” Jesus used this illustration, but they did not understand the things which He spoke to them.
John 10:1-6 (NKJV)
“Na verdade, na verdade vos digo que, aquele que não entra pela porta, no curral das ovelhas, mas sobe por outra parte, é ladrão e salteador. Aquele, porém, que entra pela porta, é o pastor das ovelhas. A este o porteiro abre, e as ovelhas ouvem a sua voz, e chama pelo nome às suas ovelhas, e as traz para fora. E, quando tira para fora as suas ovelhas, vai adiante delas, e as ovelhas o seguem, porque conhecem a sua voz; Mas, de modo nenhum seguirão o estranho, antes fugirão dele, porque não conhecem a voz dos estranhos.” Jesus disse-lhes esta parábola; mas eles não entenderam o que era que lhes dizia.

We have a door open in front of us. Jesus is that door, only through Him, do we have access to salvation. There is no doubt in the Bible that this door is already open, Jesus already did everything necessary for our salvation, we just need to choose Him. The problem is, we think that we can enter the sheepfold by our own means, with our own strength, by our own works. All that is a lie, one that we can not allow to guide our lives. Also, we can’t allow others to convince us that this lie is the truth because we should know the true voice of the shepherd. The ones that know the voice of the shepherd will always enter through the door that is Jesus. On the other side is the promise of green pasture for eternity, don’t you want to receive it? Stop listening to other voices, there is no other way besides Jesus.
Temos uma porta aberta à nossa frente. Jesus é essa porta, só através d’Ele, temos acesso à salvação. Não há dúvida na Bíblia que esta porta já está aberta, Jesus já fez tudo o que era necessário para a nossa salvação, só precisamos de O escolher. O problema é que pensamos que podemos entrar no curral pelos nossos próprios meios, com as nossas próprias forças, pelas nossas próprias obras. Tudo isto é uma mentira, uma mentira que não podemos permitir que guie as nossas vidas. Além disso, não podemos permitir que outras pessoas nos convençam de que esta mentira é a verdade porque devemos conhecer a verdadeira voz do pastor. Aqueles que conhecem a voz do pastor entrarão sempre através da porta que é Jesus. Do outro lado está a promessa de pastagens verdes para a eternidade, não queres recebê-la? Pára de ouvir as outras vozes, não há outro caminho além de Jesus.
Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

Tornou, pois, Jesus a dizer-lhes: Em verdade vos digo que eu sou a porta das ovelhas. Todos quantos vieram antes de mim são ladrões e salteadores; mas as ovelhas não os ouviram. Eu sou a porta: se alguém entrar por mim, salvar-se-á, e entrará, e sairá, e achará pastagens. O ladrão não vem senão a roubar, a matar e a destruir: eu vim para que tenham vida, e a tenham com abundância.

How awesome it is to know that our God only wants the best for us and even made the way. What about you? Do you accept this open door, or are you still making different turns?
